Hello and welcome, my name is Maria (reviewmom) and today I’ll be taking a closer look at The First Years Wave Stroller.
The deals are crazy now on these strollers and with the competition charging twice the price for the same feature packed items, It’s important to find out whether this brand offers just as much value for money. I’ll do my best to cover as much ground as possible today and give you the most in depth review possible.
No Fuss – No Fluff – Just what you’re looking for… Right?
We suggest you read the full article, but if you are in a hurry then we have provided a video at the end of this page that shows the wave in action, or click here to go straight to Amazon for everything else you need to know.
Okay, here we go then…
A lot of the features (and there are a lot) presented on the first years wave stroller are unique to this brand. The bassinet to toddler seat for example is really a seat within a seat that changes from a bassinet for the infant, to a toddler seat for an older child. Other important features to mention are the adjustable handle, easy maneuverability, reversible seat feature, huge canopy, not to mention a price tag that’s half the price of it’s competition for luxury styled strollers.

===> Reversible Seat <===
Our favorite feature on the wave stroller is its reversible seat functionality. Other strollers out on the market have the reversible seat feature, however, a lot of them require that you must remove the seat completely before it can be turned around.
The beauty about the Wave is the seat can be reversed with your baby on board at all times, leaving your stroller facing the same way throughout the whole process. Additionally, you can also switch which direction you want to push the stroller in by simply lifting the handle from front to back, all in one free movement. Watching the short video on this page will give you an excellent visual of this process in action, it’s one of those things that words can never do much justice to.
===> Big Sunshade <===
In the upright position, the Canopy goes to about half way..which is where the baby’s stomach would most likely be! That’s a lot of coverage!… If you need it to go even lower, you can, since the top of the shade is elastic and is
not attached to the stroller itself.
Also, the sunshade has a peek-a-boo window so you can check that your little one is sleeping comfortably. Although the size of the canopy is a great feature, some customers said that “a little more clearance for the taller child would have been ideal”
==> Maneuverability
Due to its larger rear tires (which always stay at the back) the wave has great maneuverability and is easily handled on either grass or gravel. The larger wheels, 7″ diameter in the front and 11″ diameter in the rear, allows your stroller to glide over any surface with ease. We tested this product with up to 60-lbs on board (not recommended by retailer) and surprisingly enough it handled remarkably well. There’s also a quick-flip break with a color indicator to let you know when it’s securely stationary.
===> Size (width) <===
The size is a little bigger than we would have liked. This could be tricky whilst maneuvering inside smaller areas like a restaurant or the local store. The width in the back (wheel to wheel) is about 24″, and the bassinet is LONG, about 34″.
Okay, not much of a problem when you’re outside, but for certain errands it could cause minor problems. Although the wave is slightly wider than other strollers, we think the trade-off of its 360 degree maneuverability is a worthwhile benefit you gain for this downside, but this is purely a matter of opinion.
===> Weight <===
The first years wave stroller weighs 24lbs. Because of all the features that come with this model we expected it to be on the heavy and to be fair, 24lbs is surprisingly light. As we mentioned earlier, the maneuverability with up to 60lbs was was a breeze, even over rough terrain like grass, gravel and with our Ruby on board (Ruby is our daughter by the way)

===> Traveling with the Wave <===
The Wave comes with a universal car seat adapter that just snaps into place and the car seat snaps into the adapter. Instructions are included with your purchase on how to do this safely, but rest assured safety is a big concern for us so it was important that this feature worked cleanly and safely…which it does.
The adapter allows the stroller to be used with the Graco SnugRide carseat and the Chicco KeyFit carseat. There
are also many other models that the Wave car seat adapter is compatible with, but we recommend looking at “The First Years True Fit Convertible Car Seat” which seems to be the most recommended model by the vast majority of owners of this model.
We have provided a list of car-seats that meet the criteria for compatibility at the bottom of this page but if you look around online you will be sure to find many more.
When folding the Wave stroller to put into your car you have to remove the seat beforehand because the wave is a bassinet and a toddler seat in one. However it is a simple process which you can see in the video.
===> Telescoping handle <===
Whether you are 5’2 or 6’2 is of no consequence as the telescopic handle can be easily adjusted to the height of the person doing the pushing. This is a great feature for both the taller person as well as the not so tall. The foam wrap around gives it a soft and comfortable feel while the handle itself is strong and sturdy.
===> Baby positioning <===
The seat is higher off the ground than average – (23″ high), which means your baby has a better view, is closer to you and not so close to the dust on the street. In bassinet mode you don’t have to bend over so far to reach your little one either.
With the First Years wave stroller you just have to push the lever to twist the seat around to either front or back, it really is that simple. If your little one starts to nod off during your long afternoon walk, simply use the recline feature and they can comfortably snooze while you continue on your merry way. Did i mention that the seat has 5 point adjustable harness, perfect for when your little one grows. With 50lbs supported the wave is a stroller that can be used for many years to come.

===> Price Comparison <===
We have come across cheaper strollers on the market and of course, there are high-end luxury strollers too. We think the first years wave stroller is closer to the high-end market but with a reasonable price tag for its unique designer look, the reversible seat capability, the ability to transform from a bassinet to a toddler seat without any extra cost or having to carry around a bassinet separately.
Couple that with the big sunshade, the car seat adapter and the easy one hand fold up option, the Wave on comparison to other strollers may very well be the best value overall, but although we have reviewed this product for you, it would be beneficial to read the customer reviews at Amazon to further your knowledge on this product.
Things we liked about The First Years Wave Stroller
- Unique simple functionality of the reverse seat feature which can be reversed with your baby on-board whilst you stand still. The stroller wheels will still be facing the same way which is by far the best feature we have come across on any stroller to date.
- Has a universal adapter that fits most car infant seats (included with stroller)
- Big sunshade with peek-a-boo window
- Ease of maneuverability and smooth handling over grass as well as gravel
- Telescoping handle for the short (like myself) and also for the taller person
- The seat positioning which is higher than usual for strollers but a bonus for the baby’s view and further distance from the street dust also
- Front swivel wheels that lock very easily (all you have to do is press the lock and then turn the wheel until you hear a click;)
- Multiple reclining positions, including flat for newborns or for sleeping child
- Little handle to help with folding the base, can be used to carry the base or when putting it in the car;
- The luxury overall style and function we would only expect from a much more expensive product, it is a luxury stroller for the parents who don’t want to pay luxurious prices.
Things we didn’t like about The First Years Wave Stroller
- Basket is a bit small and may be a little hard to access, not much room for shopping etc.
- No cup/bottle holder; and no baby tray either, it would have been nice to have at least one.
- The two straps that adjust from bassinet mode to toddler mode can be tough to do, and have to be pulled pretty hard to buckle them.
- The distance from wheel to wheel at the back could be a bit narrower for better maneuvering in small places.
- The canopy could have more clearance for taller children.
Final Thoughts
Our only real complaints would be to have accessories such as a cup holder and parent tray available and maybe a little less width from the back. Other than that we were impressed with the twist and spin reverse seat, the bassinet to toddler seat feature and the other rich features included.
With all the generous features that make this a standout product, you would imagine a hefty price tag, but The First Years Wave Stroller is very affordable considering the competition is charging 3–4 times the amount for what’s being offered here.
We only recommend products that meet the standard of high quality and The First Years Wave Stroller has passed the test. Amazon also have a 365 day return policy on this product providing it is not used Click Here to learn more about this.
Check back with us very soon as we will be reviewing a whole new catalog of up coming products.
Take care and until next time, have a wonderful day…. Maria Sherperr.
